The findings of a Gallup Study indicate that there are four keys for managers to follow to manage employees more effectively and improve performance.
- Select employees for talent, rather than experience or intelligence.
- When you set expectations, define the outcome rather than the right steps.
- Motivate employees by focusing on strengths, rather than weaknesses. It is harder to transform weaknesses than it is to develop strengths. Don't condemn your workers to perpetual and impossible self-improvement plans.
- When developing someone, help him or her find the right fit, rather than the highest possible job title. People will often be happier doing what they have a talent for. Find ways to reward employees who don't want to move up the corporate ladder.
