4 keys for managing more effectively

The findings of a Gallup Study indicate that there are four keys for managers to follow to manage employees more effectively and improve performance.

  1. Select employees for talent, rather than experience or intelligence.
  2. When you set expectations, define the outcome rather than the right steps.
  3. Motivate employees by focusing on strengths, rather than weaknesses. It is harder to transform weaknesses than it is to develop strengths. Don't condemn your workers to perpetual and impossible self-improvement plans.
  4. When developing someone, help him or her find the right fit, rather than the highest possible job title. People will often be happier doing what they have a talent for. Find ways to reward employees who don't want to move up the corporate ladder.
