Asking someone to rate something on a scale of 1 to 10 isn't new or glamorous. But I bet it's underutilized in the workplace, except perhaps the medical field. There, patients are asked on a scale of 1 to 10 "how bad does it hurt?"
Asking for a number gives you more perspective and better feedback than adjectives such as "good," "bad," or "OK". A number helps you decide whether to change focus and priorities.
"On a scale of 1 to 10...
...how serious is this problem?"
...how urgent is it to buy this new piece of equipment?"
...how well is our new assistant working out her first month here?"
...how important is it to obtain this new account?"
...how critical is it to focus on this emerging market?"
...how would you rate the suggested design for our new logo?"
...how would you rate Bob's plan for reorganizing the departments?"
For better feedback ask for numbers, not adjectives
