5 Excel shortcuts you'll wish you knew sooner

Chandoo runs Pointy Haired Dilbert, a great site for Excel shortcuts and power tips. Here are 5 you'll wish you knew a long time ago:

1. Auto adjust column width or row height. To auto adjust the width of columns or height of rows, select the columns or rows you want to adjust and then double click on the separator icon between the columns or rows.

2. Auto fill a range of cells. Chandoo writes "You can auto fill a range with sequential numbers, dates, days of week, months etc., by entering first few values and then selecting them and dragging the range by clicking & holding the bottom right corner. When you do this Excel will automatically fill the rest of the cells with data based on what you are entering."

3. Move data from one cell to another. Instead of cutting and pasting data from one cell to another, simply click and drag on the thick black border of the cell to its new location.

4. Jump to the last row or column. Instead of scrolling from top to bottom or from left to right, Chandoo says "Just select any cell in the table and double click on the cell-border in the direction you want to go."

5. Gain more work space. Double click on any menu tab and the ribbon will collapse thus providing more work space. Double click again to show the ribbon.
