One of the many strategies for making your website appealing to search engine crawlers is using outbound links effectively. Here are 6 tips from Jerri Ledford's book, Search Engine Optimization:
- Keep you links relevant--Make sure there is a logical reason for pointing visitors in a particular direction.
- Don't overuse links--Use no more than 2 or 3 links per article or post.
- Use keyword anchor text--Don't use "click here". Instead, use keywords that you're linking to (e.g., "free report templates").
- Be careful with whom you link to--Search engines penalize you for linking to low-quality sites.
- Don't create pages that contain only links--Search engines interpret these as spam pages.
- Fix broken links--A broken link is worse than not having a link at all.
