From the article "Coaching Millennials" in CIO magazine, H.B. Fuller CIO Steve John says when coaching Millennials (born between 1977 and 1998), make sure they understand there is no entitlement. "Even CIOs who feel entitled by virtue of their title must realize that we don't automatically get a seat at the executive table. We have to win those seats."
He said the first principles are trust and business knowledge. "No one has both of those coming in the door. Millennials need to build trust and acquire business knowledge." The next principles are foresight and ambition: "...in order to be successful, you also need foresight and ambition on behalf of the organization."
John cautions what doesn't work is forcing Millennials into a rigid work model. "Millennials don't view the world as silos; they view it as a horizontal, connected network."
